Managing Partner

Preston J. Llewellyn

Preston is the co-founder and Managing Partner of Independent Economics. He leads the organisation on all aspects of strategy, team leadership and operations, and key client and assignment management across its global network.

An experienced business leader, Preston also works substantively on all projects, and has written on and led projects on subjects ranging from the decarbonisation of industry to ESG, digitalisation, and technology, including importantly a specialist series on new technologies that stand to have practical application in industries over the coming ten years. 

Before co-founding the organisation in 2009 he spent ten years at the industrial coalface serving in various senior roles on corporate strategy, business development, communications, and marketing.

Preston holds a BA and an MSc (Maitrise Sc. Ec.) in Economics with French from the University of Sussex and the University of Grenoble, and an MBA from Imperial College, London.

Senior Adviser

Sangeeta Khorana

Based in Bournemouth, Sangeeta has an extensive career encompassing academia, government, and management consulting. Currently serving as a Professor at Aston Business School in the UK, she also holds the position of a Trustee Director on boards of various profit and not-for-profit organisations in the UK, India and USA.

Professor Khorana advises governments on trade negotiations and actively contributes her insights to various UK government committees. She is interested in and has written widely on trade negotiations, sustainable and inclusive supply value chains, and procurement reform related issues. Her extensive academic portfolio encompasses over 70 publications, including books, book chapters, and journal articles on trade policy issues. She has been involved in training work in Vietnam, the Caribbean region, the UK, Bangladesh, India, among others. Her work is interdisciplinary which requires her to collaborate with trade lawyers, political scientists, and operational management experts.

Her track record includes completion of successful projects for organisations such as the European Commission, Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), World Bank/OECS, UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Commonwealth Secretariat, UNCTAD-India, and several others.

She has a PhD from the University of St. Gallen, a summa cum laude Masters’ degree in trade law and economics from Switzerland, and an MA in Economics from India.

Senior Adviser

Tim Tiverton

Tim is an independent legal consultant and senior adviser to the firm’s International Trade & Facilitation practice area, specialising in all aspects of international trade in services, immigration and international employment law, with a long history of working for and advising international businesses.

Tim is a UK solicitor who previously worked for a number of employer associations including the Engineering Employers Federation (EEF), now Make UK, in the UK and Europe. He then helped found a bespoke UK consultancy following UK’s departure from the EU to advise on the trade in services. He now advises businesses and business organisations throughout Europe, UK, and globally.

Prior to this, he worked as a UK lawyer in Brussels, for the UK Government and in a private law practice. During this time, he practised in commercial, company, and corporate law and worked as general counsel for UK businesses.
